How automation can help streamline your business with Drumm Nevatt & Associates.

NEWS

Business owners face the daily challenge of how to keep their business profitable and competitive as technology advances. One way to overcome that obstacle is by employing automation says Registered chartered accounting firm Drumm Nevatt & Associates.

Automated accounting is the use of software to complete traditional accounting tasks. Finance automation can make life easier for your business, saving you time and effort.

“All businesses look should implement automated accounting and bookkeeping into their business strategy if they haven’t already,” says Craig Nevatt, Director at DNA.

Fortunately, automation has reached a level of sophistication where it’s affordable and practical for small businesses as well as large corporations. Here are some ways automating various business processes can help your small business remove some of the grunt work and enjoy greater profitability.

“Automation is important in being able to successfully manage all aspects of your business regardless of its size. Invoices, receipts and transactions can quickly take over your day if you are not prepared,” comments Craig.

Without a doubt, one of the biggest benefits of automation in your business is that it saves you time! As a business owner, a lot of your time will be spent selling your products or services, so the last thing you want to be doing is processing paperwork.

With automation, you can remove repetitive tasks and drastically reduce error-prone spreadsheet work. Tedious activities like faxing, copying, and the physical storing of documents can be eliminated with automation.

Automation helps avoid the pain of gathering and compiling data. With automation, you have access to detailed and easy to read reports of your financial situation. “Having a sound understanding of your business financial situation is vital to better decision making and long-term stability,” adds Craig.

Automation can also help protect your confidential data from breaches, cyberattacks, and other types of unauthorized access.

Another surprising benefit of automation in accounting is that it can improve other areas of the business. With automation most of the labour-intensive finance processes are automated, which means that the human resources used for such tasks can now be put to better use, for instance, to give better customer service or dedicate more time to sell your product or service.

Are you are looking to add some automation to your business but not sure where to start? Then contact the friendly experts at Drumm Nevatt & Associates. Drumm Nevatt & Associates is a registered chartered accounting firm that provides a wide selection of services with a depth of knowledge and experience that will benefit any business.

New GE Burger Should Carry Warning

HEALTH

There should be a consumer warning label on the “Impossible burger” to alert customers to the novel GMO ingredients.

The Impossible Foods Company is spending thousands of dollars to promote its recently launched imitation GM meat in New Zealand. The imitation patties contain a range of GM ingredients.[1] The most controversial is soy leghemoglobin “blood” manufactured from GMO yeast, which comes along with 46 contaminating yeast proteins, all of which are new to the food supply and never before consumed by humans.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) have relied on the industry’s evaluation of their tests, which was limited to two short term rat feeding studies, of 14 days and 28 days. An independent analysis of these feeding studies by molecular geneticist Michael Antoniou, (PhD) and Claire Robinson (MPhil), found unexplained changes in weight gain and signs of potential toxicity in the 28-day rodent study. [2]

Reports overseas from consumers’ adverse effects related to stomach and digestive problems after eating the impossible burger, have been recorded. It is important for New Zealand customers to be aware of and report these unexpected problems. [3]

New Zealand has been serving non-GM foods for vegetarian and vegan for many years.[4]

“There are already safer, delicious New Zealand vegetarian and vegan alternatives that do not use untested GE sourced ingredients in their products,” said Jon Carapiet, GE Free NZ spokesperson

FSANZ ignored concerns that ingredients new to human food should be independently safety tested. They are now in consultation with the public to further exempt certain GE ingredients.[5]

Consumers may think they are being healthy or supporting ethical and sustainable production, but highly processed GE soy-based ingredients are often heavily sprayed with pesticide. [6]

Wedding Stationery Business Gives Back

WEDDINGS

Auckland-based business Timberwink Studio, a one-stop shop for wedding stationery and DIY templates, is now donating a portion of shop sales to causes and organisations in need.

Timberwink Studio is a household name for newlyweds who relied on graphic designer and business owner Riz to help them design and print the wedding stationery of their dreams.

However, knowing she could make a difference in more lives, Riz established a Give Back scheme in 2019 that would allow her to donate a portion of their shop sales to those who needed them the most around the world.

According to Riz, giving back was a core value of hers, and she wanted to make sure she could support organisations and charities close to her heart.

“It will forever be a part of the way I want to run this business,” she says.

So far, Timberwink Studio has supported many people in need, such as single mums starting and maintaining small businesses and orphans worldwide.

Zaytoun, an organisation in Jenin based around olive tree planting, is one of many to benefit from Timberwink Studio’s support. This organisation relies on donations of olive trees to support farmers who have lost crops, small farmers, women landowners, and young farmers with inherited or acquired land.

Some of Timberwink Studio’s funds are also donated to UNICEF, which advocates for child rights, and One Ummah, a charity centred around orphan sponsorship and water sanitation.

Riz says that by supporting Timberwink Studio, you’re also supporting charities and organisations in need.

“You can play a key role in the expansion of our reach so that we’re able to give more to charities that need our help around the world. As the business grows, our support grows.”

About Timberwink

Timberwink Studio is a graphic design and print business in West Auckland specialising in wedding stationery and DIY templates. Tips for safe cattle handling with New Zealand’s leading Rural Consultants for AgSafe New Zealand Ltd.

NEWS

Handling cattle the right way makes them calmer and safer says New Zealand’s leading farm consultants, AgSafe NZ.

Every year, on New Zealand Farms many people are hurt by cattle, mostly when cattle kick or crush them. Additionally, according to WorkSafe, some suffer serious injuries, like broken bones, and people have been killed.

Cattle have minds of their own, have a massive weight advantage and can move unexpectedly quick, especially if they are agitated. It takes competence and training to handle them safely and without risk.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when handling cattle is to keep them calm. Alarmed and over-excited cattle are a danger to health and safety. “Give them time and space to calm down, especially when they’ve just been moved into the yards,” comments Jim.

It is also extremely helpful to be able to recognise the danger signs in agitated cattle. Unsettled cattle often bellow noisily and paw the ground with their hooves.

Any farmer that has worked with cattle knows that they have surprisingly good memories. They learn quickly and will soon work out who frightens them and who treats them good.

“Cattle are prone to getting stressed around times of castration, weaning and the first milking. If you treat them gently during those times, it’ll pay off in the future,” adds Jim.

Cattle have two balance lines. One that goes across the shoulders and the other runs along the backbone. When you’re working up close with cattle, whichever way you move through those lines, the animal will move the opposite way.

If you’re alongside the animal and move forward, it will move backward.
If you go back, it will go forward.
If you’re in front and move to the left, it will move to your right.

Your voice is a valuable cattle handling tool. Not only can you use your voice to calm and soothe, but you can also use your voice to let the cattle know where you are.

“Cattle aren’t capable of seeing the way we can. If they perceive movement to the side or the rear, they will get spooked. But if they can hear you, they can know where you are and are more likely to be calmer,” advises Jim.

Carry a length of pipe or a long stick with a piece of cloth on the end to make a flag (a waddy) to make yourself look bigger and give you confidence when handling difficult animals.

If you stand facing the cow with your waddy outstretched, you are putting yourself in a domineering and positive position. If you want to take the heat out of the situation by lowering the waddy and turning side-on.
