A drama with a thriller edge, Vegas plunges into the criminal underworld of the fictional town of Wairoto. Following a botched drug deal, a violent power struggle is ignited between rival gangs and a local tavern owner. The six-part series features an ensemble cast including Eds Eramiha, Cian Elyse White, Katie Wolfe and Rena Owen. Filmed in and around Rotorua, the series features a largely Māori cast and crew. Created by Michael Bennett (TV movie In Dark Places) and Harriet Crampton (The Tender Trap), the series was produced by Greenstone TV for TVNZ. The script was partly inspired by Ray Berard’s novel Inside the Black Horse.
